Beginning January 21 through March 4, Building 18 – 1108 Strand Building – will be demolished. As a result, the curbside parking spaces and sidewalks at the southeast corner of 11th Street and Strand and the east side of Research Building 17 will be closed. Detour signs will be in place to direct pedestrians around the demolition site.

Two blocks in the western part of the Galveston campus have been closed to motorists due to installation of underground utilities. The closure is expected to last until August 2013.
Streets closed are:
- 12th Street, between Strand and Mechanic Street
- Mechanic Street, between 11th and 12th streets
No curbside parking will be allowed. Pedestrian pathways are in place. The area is close to the School of Health Professions and the School of Nursing.
The closures will allow crews to install underground high-temperature water lines. The water lines are part of a phased $289 million project to replace less-efficient underground steam pipes, which supply heating systems in buildings. Flooding from Hurricane Ike in 2008 damaged the pipes. FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, has determined that $205 million is eligible for federal funding.

Will there be any replacement areas for students who paid for street parking, since all of these parking spaces have been blocked?
Not that we know of. We have been told to refer to the parking map and to use other areas of student parking, such as the east side of campus near the Field House. http://www.utmb.edu/AuxiliaryEnterprises/images/auxenterprise_139189.jpg
